Google patented a system of identification labels on the photos

The company Google, as reported by ZDNet, patents a system of automatic recognition of the inscriptions on digital photos. The corresponding application was filed in the Office of the United States Patent and Trademark Office in June of last year and published at the beginning of the month.

The application for the number 20080002893 describes a so-called system of ' text recognition in images ' (Recognizing text in images). As the inventors appear Luc Vincent and Adrian Alges. The technique reduces to a computer analysis of digital photos or images and the subsequent extraction of text in text form.

It is possible that the patent-pending system will be used to automatically search for inscriptions on digital images in the Google database and add them as keywords to the appropriate images. This theoretically will increase the relevance of the results, issued at the request of users. In addition, the new system may help in determining the areas in which he was made a picture.

As to Google, however, has refused to give any comments on how to use patent-pending technology. Representatives of the search giant just say that Google is developing many patents, some of which may find practical application, while others - no.
